Andy running, Kyle catching Aimee on the run, Emma loving the finishing line crowd

Emma and Alison have been banging on about how nice an event this is for years. So after years of bullying, Kyle and I finally decided to enter and take our middle distance virginity.

Alison supported and helped marshalโ€ฆ dragging us out of the swim finish and then waving a blow up dinosaur in our faces on the course. Thanks for the support.

Andy decided to return after doing it for the first time 3 years ago. He learnt from his first time the importance of eating on the bike. This year he turned up with a food bag on his bike!!!! He ate, he fuelled up for the run and managed to run and take 10 minutes off of his previous overall time. Not bad for an old man, well done Andy. ๐Ÿ™‚

The swim was very scrappy to start with. Andy had his goggles knocked off and Kyle lost his timing chip but didn’t realise until he was on the bike. So stopped to ask Alison what to do and she was great, going to the timing people and asking for a new one to be waiting for him in T2. So his officially splits are a bit screwed… hence the ish on the times.

Kyle and I crossed paths throughout the race. I was first out of the swim, but he met me in transition. It took him 8 miles to catch me on the bike. I think he may have pushed it a bit too much to catch me, as he then went off but felt sick and couldn’t eat… I on the other hand loved eating every 5 miles. I think I was born for this distance! I felt so full when I came in to go on to the run. ๐Ÿ™‚

When I came off the bike, Kyle was in transition (feeling sick), but he soon caught up with me on the run as I had a terrible knot in my calf and had to walk! ๐Ÿ™ I made it round the first lap and then asked the marshals if I could pop into transition to put pain relief gel on my leg. They were great and let me in. So I managed the other 2 laps slowly.

1 and a half miles from the end I caught up with Kyle again. We ran the rest together. I offered to let him sprint finish and beat me, but Kyle being the gentleman that he is, said no, we will cross together. So we crossed the line together but he got placed 2 positions behind me! lol

Emma did a great swim, though possibly had a cup of tea in T1! She beat her previous bike time and had a good run making sure no portaloo felt left out. ๐Ÿ™‚ She was loving the crowd as she was coming in on the finish line!

We all had a great time and enjoyed it. I think we will all be back again next year hoping for the same good weather conditions (dry and not too hot).
